Australia Trip 2005

Cairns, Australia

Cairns is one of the highlights on a trip to Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is a beautiful place to go diving and also the rainforest is definitely worth a visit. Cairns is also one of the best places to go spotting. Right next to the airport is a 150 meter high hill with an amazing view over the airfield. If the aircraft depart to the South, they will pass you at or below your eye-level. Beware; it will take you at least half an hour to walk up this hill. Qantas and Virgin Blue are frequent visitors and Australian Airlines visits the airport daily to and from Japan and other Australian cities. There are also many smaller aircraft based at Cairns that make scenic flights above the reef. Aviamagazine flew to Cairns on an Australian Airlines flight from the Gold Coast.

Indy 300 Surfers Paradise, Australia

The Indy races are one of the biggest car races in Australia, besides the Bathurst 1000 and the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Indy races are held on a street circuit at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. The Air Force was also present between the races with a display of the RAAF Roulettes flying PC-9s and of course the famous F-111. The F-111 also did its famous Dump 'n Burn and it happened right above the cheering public.
