Day 9, Monday June 3rd

Kulis ANGB

At Kulis there were still some visiting aircraft, who joined the festivities of last weekend celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Alaska ANG. After a call with our contact on Kulis we visited the flight line, just in time to see the F-15 and the departure (including engine run up) of the Eielson F-16's. Both squadrons commands lined up, this was a nice Kodak moment.

The weather over the glacier was very bad so we continued our trip, visiting several airfields and strips along the way with little to see.

We stayed in Homer that night well known as a fishermen's village. Of course there was salmon on the menu that night. We also checked out Homer Regional AP located next to the Homer Split, with little to see.

Day 10, Tuesday June 4th

We had to break several speeding limits to get back to Anchorage on time, because we had a appointment at US Army base Fort Richardson. On the way we made some beautiful pictures of bald eagles.

Bryant AAF

Our visit to Fort Richardson and especially Bryant Army Field took us to several Blackhawks with ski's and Sherpa's. We also photographed in the hangars and in the Sherpa's.

Elmendorf AFB

Our contact on Kulis had arrange a visit to Elmendorf AFB, so after catching up with our contact we went to Elmendorf in a USAF-van. No problems at the gate this time, thanks to our transportation. Due to the 11th off September all F-15 area's are now off-limits, so we had to read serials and photograph form a distance. The weather was also turning for the worst.

Our experiment, combining civil-, military aviation and nature, was a success. If you want to see the last operation propliners or want to spot several hundred floatplanes, Alaska is your thing. If you want to spot wildlife, rough landscapes, ice and snow, Alaska is also your thing. Combining it makes it a trip never to forget.
