Royal International Air Tattoo 2001

By Gostar den Daas | July 2001
Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Cottesmore

For the second year in a row, the Royal International Air Tattoo, took place at RAF Cottesmore. The 30th anniversary of the world’s biggest military airshow couldn’t use its normal RAF Fairford location as the runway was getting a complete overhaul. Aviamagazine visited the show on Sunday 29 July 2001.

Static

Lots of interesting visitors of the static. The Italians brought two NH500Es, which are pretty rare, especially outside of Italy. The German Air Force brought 2 great “Tiger” Tornado’s, and it was the last time for the German MiG-29. Other highlights included a Maltese BN-2, South-Africa and Romanian C-130B.

Air show

In that days my equipment wasn’t that great. Apart from the Kodak film, I was also lacking lots of mm’s. So most of the airshow shots that day were take on landing and take-off. Another downside is the backlight during most of the show. Only on Sunday a B-2, straight from the US, made one pass.
