Koksijde International Airshow 2011

By Gostar den Daas | July 2011
Celebrating 65 years Belgian Air Force.

This year, the Belgian Air Component (COMOPSAIR), Air Force department of the Belgian military, celebrates the 65th anniversary of the Air Force. The costal airbase of Koksijde was the scene of this celebration, with special guests like the Saudi Arabian Hawks and the USAF Thunderbirds.

The public airshow was held at 6 and 7 July. Although not a weekend, both days were packed. Aviamagazine was present on the 7th.

Static

Although mostly dry, the weather wasn’t great, with mostly gray skies. During the last part of the Thunderbirds show, all hell broke loose and the skies opened up. Wet to the bone, but fortunately the photo equipment survived.

The Belgians put together an interesting static, with some unique aircraft like the Polish Navy Mi-8, an An-30 from the Ukraine and the rara An-2 from the Estonia Air Force.
