With its last passenger flight just the night before, 4 Fokkers 70s we retired Sunday 29 October 2017 from KLMs Cityhopper fleet. This marks the end of an era, 97 years of shared history between KLM and Fokker. Hundreds of people showing up at Schiphol East to witness this event.
The last passenger service KL1070 (PH-KZU), London Heathrow to Amsterdam Schiphol landed 20:30 on Saturday evening. Together with 3 other F70s the specially painted aircraft, with Anthony Fokker on the tail, was parked at Schiphol East, the place where Schiphol airport originally started.
In a small ceremony on Sunday morning a monument was revealed next to the “old tower” and Cityhoppers headquarters. The Fokker 70 tail resembles the bond between KLM, KLM Cityhopper and Fokker. Just before departure a rainbow appeared above PH-KZS. Shortly After the last four F70s headed for runway 04 for a final fly-by.
The aircraft departed in short succession banking in a right turn over Schiphol East. PH-KZU made a turn and flew one last time, low and with speed brakes extended, over the tower at Schiphol East before joining the others. This time they left for good, destination Norwich, UK to be prepared for new airlines in Peru, Cyprus, Africa and Asia.
